french open 2025 aryna sabalenka through to the french open semi finals surpassing zheng
Aryna Sabalenka finally avenged her loss at the Rome Open last month as she defeated China’s Qinwen Zheng at the French Open Quarter Finals on Tuesday. The match between the current World No. 1 and the reigning Paris Olympic Champion was one for the books as the two talented locked heads after Sabalenka loss at Rome.
The Belarusian observed the game on Tuesday systematically and found her way through conviction and defeated Zheng by 7-6(3) 6-3 for a victory. Aryna Sabalenka faced Zheng after a loss only a month ago at the Rome Open.
Sabalenka began slow against Zheng as the 27 year old glided through the tie break followed by a high octane second set, a nail biting serve back. The World No.1 somehow pushed through with her natural play and capitalised on Zheng’s double errors, moving a step towards her first French Open title.
Sabalenka also registered fifth consecutive straight set wins with this match. It is also to be noted that Sabalenka has now entered the most women’s singles semi-finals (11) in Grand Slam events since 2011.
Zheng ultimately gave away much with 4 double faults while Sabalenka maintained 2 and converting 4/6 break points helped her win. Sabalenka’s heavy forehand also helped her confidence along with clocking 60% win on first serve contributing to her win.
“It was a true battle, and I had no idea how I could break her back and get back into the first set. I didn’t start well, and I’m glad I found my rhythm and won. I think we’re all here for one reason. Everyone wants that beautiful trophy. I’m glad I have another opportunity, another semi-final to do better than last time. I really hope that by the end of the clay court season I’m really proud of myself”, said Sabalenka post match.
