Ford Recalls 20,000 SUVs: Issues Could Cause Fires in Escape & Lincoln Corsair Hybrids

Ford is recalling over 20,000 Escape and Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid SUVs. The reason is battery issues that could cause a fire. This recall will affect 2020–2024 model-year hybrids. This Ford recall was announced after concerns about a manufacturing problem in the battery cells.

The issue may cause an internal battery short circuit, which could shut down the vehicle unexpectedly or even lead to a fire. Ford said that a defect in the battery’s separator layer could cause the high-voltage battery to malfunction.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

This recall by Ford is including approximately 16,480 Ford Escape plug-in hybrids and 4,004 Lincoln Corsair hybrids. These models are built between July 10, 2019, and April 17, 2024. The affected vehicles are 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines.

A warning message “Stop Safely Now” will appear on the vehicle’s dashboard. Till now there are no reports of any accidents or injuries.

According to the update Ford will notify car owners from January 20, 2025. After then dealers will update the Battery Energy Control Module software to detect the problem. If any issue is found then the high-voltage battery will be replaced at no cost to the owner.

How Can You Check If You’re Affected?

If you own a 2020–2024 Ford Escape or Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid, you can check for recalls on the NHTSA website or contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 for more information.

This recall is part of Ford’s commitment to keeping drivers safe and ensuring their vehicles are operating correctly. If you own one of the affected vehicles, make sure to have it checked as soon as possible.
