Football fans around the world have been debating over this for almost 2 decades. Who is better, Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? This is the question that has been going on in every corner of the streets worldwide.
While some think the Argentinian international is the best, the other half thinks Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest of all time. If a comparison is done, you will find that Messi has more assists and Ronaldo has more goals.
Lets see who wins the title of the GOAT and who is better by an analysis.
As a kid, Lionel Messi was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency. Due to this, he relocated to Spain and joined FC Barcelona as a footballer at the age of 13. After that, at the age of 17 he won the first Ballon D’or (total 8) and the FIFA Player of the Year Award at 2022. He came to the limelight at a very early stage of his career.
Similarly, his counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo started his career at the age of 15. He was born in the islands of Madeira, Portugal. He joined Manchester United at the age of 18. Till now, he has won 3 consecutive Premier Leagues, before winning the Ballon D’ors (total 5) and FIFA player of the Year at the age of 23.
Messi and Ronaldo differ in their style of play. Messi is often known as the magician with the ball at his feet. He has a low centre of gravity, helping him switch lines and increase his speed. Along with this, the magician’s feet come alive during dribbling and passing the ball to his teammates. LM 10 has the highest number of assists.
The Portuguese Captain on the other hand is a different kind of player. He is strong and athletic. If Ronaldo is on the ground, the games become faster and more exciting. He is the combination of physical, athletic and technical strengths and becomes the x factor for the team he plays for. Cristiano has the highest number of goals scored by any footballer in the world right now.
One of the most conflicting points that occur during comparison of these 2 modern greats is the debate of Messi’s skill and talent vs Ronaldo’s hard work.
Ronaldo being a very skinny and thin boy during his childhood has now transformed into one of the fittest if not the fittest players to play the sport currently. He has already created a legacy to be left behind if he stops playing the game today. His dedication towards the game and the way he has improved inspires millions of kids.
On the other hand, Messi’s attributes in being a direct runner, good in the air, and minimum time on the sidelines are some things to notice. A very interesting fact to note about Messi is that he walks on the field most of the time and stores his energy. He is not involved in the defence although he watches all the time what’s going on the field. And suddenly his magic appears when he does the run up and scores the goals. This shows the class of Messi.
Although this debate is a never ending, it is very hard to say who is better. Both the stars’ style of play and approach is way different. Their goals tally are 837 (Lionel Messi) and 895 (Cristiano Ronaldo) respectively as of now. Messi is now in Inter Miami while Ronaldo is in Al Nassr. Thus who is the better player is best left to the audience and fans to decide.
