Ed Sheeran’s new album subtract release date, songs and more

The new album “-” (pronounced “Subtract”) by Ed Sheeran will be available on May 5. On March 1, he published that information on social media. The Instagram post he made is down below.

“In an effort to create the ideal acoustic album, I spent a decade working on ‘Subtract,’ writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear idea of what I felt it should be. Then, at the beginning of 2022, a number of things happened that altered my life, my mental health, and eventually how I perceived music and art,” he said.

“As an artist, I didn’t think I could credibly release a body of work that didn’t authentically reflect where I am and how I need to express myself at this stage of my life. That is all this record is.”

The fifth instalment in Sheeran’s mathematical series after “+” (2011), “x” (2014), “÷” (2017), and “=”, will be his sixth studio album (2021). “No. 6 Collaborations Project,” his other studio album from 2019, was a compilation of collaborations with other musicians, including Justin Bieber, Khalid, and Bruno Mars.

The producer of “-” is The National’s Aaron Dessner. Taylor Swift‘s surprise 2020 album “Folklore,” on which Dessner is renowned for having collaborated, garnered some of Swift’s greatest praise and won the Grammy for Album of the Year. Sheeran has already received four Grammy awards, including Song of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for “÷” and “Thinking Out Loud.” He was nominated for Album of the Year for “x,” but he did not win.

Two top-10 hits came from his most recent album. The lead single from “=”, “Bad Habits,” reached its highest point on the Billboard Hot 100 at number two. He ultimately received a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year as a result of it. Shivers came next and reached its peak at position four. His fourth chart-topper, the album itself debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. He might be taking a look at a fifth.
