EADM hails UAE's remarkable progress in human rights
The European Association for The Defence of Minorities (EADM) has commended the UAE for its remarkable progress in human rights. The UAE’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) presentation to the UN on May 8 highlighted its commitment to improving the human rights situation and fulfilling its international obligations.
During the review, the Emirates underscored its achievements in a number of different fields, including combating human trafficking, protecting workers’ rights, countering terrorism, and fostering a culture of tolerance and co-existence.
These noteworthy achievements have received praise from human rights organisations and experts who assembled for an international symposium in Geneva, Switzerland, parallel to the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council (HRC).
Eight renowned human rights experts extensively discussed the UAE’s accomplishments in rights protection, tolerance promotion, peace building and human co-existence. The country’s notable achievements in the field of environmental protection were also highlighted.
The symposium hailed the UAE’s efforts at launching initiatives to strengthen the national, legislative and institutional systems governing human rights. These promising initiatives place individuals at the centre of the country’s development.
The international coalition of human rights organisations actively participated in the HRC session, submitting several written statements. These statements highlighted the Emirates’ efforts towards countering discrimination and racism, promoting tolerance, addressing the climate emergency, and combating extremism and terrorism.
Additionally, the coalition also highlighted the UAE’s exceptional contributions to promoting women’s rights and leadership, appreciating the role played by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the Supreme Council for Women, in promoting justice and equality.
In conclusion, the EADM – alongside the coalition – commended the UAE for its notable efforts towards establishing the Abrahamic Family House, and promoting tolerance and human co-existence.
