Compassion for Gaza: UAE Launches Campaign for Palestine

Recognizing the harrowing situation in Gaza and the humanitarian disaster evolving in Palestine, the UAE has launched a relief campaign for Palestinians. Collection centers have been set up for volunteers, charitable institutions and NGOs, and others who want to pitch in.

The relief campaign is a collaborative effort with the World Food Program and the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Community Development. The escalation between Hamas and Israel, which started a week ago, has destroyed more than 2,500 units of housing, struck 88 education facilities and displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

UAE’s Campaign ‘Tarahum for Gaza’

The UAE’s aid campaign for Gaza runs under the slogan Tarahum for Gaza. It aims to show solidarity with Palestinian children and families affected by the war. It’s a collective effort to alleviate the severity of the humanitarian conditions and reduce the suffering of the most vulnerable groups, especially children.

This is part of the United Arab Emirates’ continuous efforts to provide relief supplies to the Palestinian people amid an unfolding humanitarian disaster. The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, gave an additional $50 million in aid. He said the UAE will provide humanitarian aid, including food, hygiene materials and health supplies to Palestinian children and families affected by the continuing Israel-Gaza war.

Palestine Unprecedented Humanitarian Disaster

Meanwhile, the UN is drawing the world’s attention to the unprecedented humanitarian disaster unfolding in Palestine. Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General, said there’s an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. “Whatever the circumstances are, rules apply in times of conflict and this one is no exception. Aid to civilians who have nowhere to flee must be immediate – water, food, medicine. It is of utmost urgency that access to humanitarian assistance and protection be upheld for all civilians.”

Ana Povrzenic, the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Country Director in Palestine, said the unprecedented hostilities and rapidly mounting death toll underscore the urgency for all parties to stop the violence and ensure civilians are protected.
