Chinese “DeepSeek” AI model Outshinines ChatGPT & Shaking up the AI World

A Chinese AI startup stunned Silicon Valley after introducing innovative AI models that are now surpassing the finest in the world at a fraction of the price. In the US, DeepSeek’s AI Assistant has surpassed competitor ChatGPT to become the most popular free software on the Apple software Store.

Liang Wenfeng, an engineer and businessman with expertise in artificial intelligence and quantitative finance created DeepSeek in 2023. He oversaw a hedge fund that was well-known for applying AI to financial data analysis prior to founding DeepSeek. Liang’s team now consists of recent graduates from prestigious Chinese colleges. The business has since created open-source AI models that aid developers worldwide in advancing their technological capabilities.

What’s the hype in DeepSeek AI?

DeepSeek and OpenAI are being compared due to their recent surge in popularity. DeepSeek R1 which is believed to replicate human thinking differs from other AI models in that it provides reasoning before responding to a request.

The startup says that its performance is comparable to OpenAI’s latest technology. DeepSeek’s AI models are generated for a fraction of the cost of leading offerings like OpenAI and Meta calling into question the need for large investments in high-end AI accelerators such as Nvidia’s.

DeepSeek claims that its R1 outperforms competition models in mathematical problems, general knowledge and question-and-answer performance. It also ranks among the top performers on UC Berkeley’s Chatbot Arena scoreboard.
