CEO Rich Gelfond’s Vision: IMAX to Reach $1.2 Billion in Box Office Receipts in 2025
CEO Rich Gelfond is quite optimistic for 2025, predicting $1.2 billion in box-office revenues. Such profits would be record-high earnings for IMAX, thanks to a robust lineup of major movies as well as higher ticketing especially in China. Gelfond emphasized the slate of films releasing in 2025 that are top-grossing movies like How to Train Your Dragon, Zootopia, third installment of Avatar, new Jurassic Park and new Mission Impossible. These blockbusters together with a healthier Hollywood production slate than 2024, should fuel enormous box office sales and IMAX’s sustained growth.
Specifically Gelfond pointed to the global achievement of Ne Zha 2, a Chinese film which has already fetched $1.6 billion worldwide. IMAX counted significantly to the film’s box office with $135 million of that total . Such a solid performance has given a major boost to IMAX by showing far better performance in China within the first six weeks of 2025 than the entire 2024.
Gelfond stated that a number of films were currently making waves at the box office. Thus he commented, “I think it will be a really good year” attributing this assertion to IMAX high-definition technology and the growing international outlook of such blockbusters in an effort to reach the maximum record possible for the year 2025.
