Peace in Sight? U.S. Secures Ceasefire Agreement Between Israel and Lebanon

An announcement came from the official account of the US President, POTUS where they revealed a 60-day ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon. This is a very critical step toward resolving the conflict between the Israeli Defense Forces and Hezbollah. This step is also a big step towards the peace in middle east. 

The ceasefire comes amid ongoing regional tensions exacerbated by Hamas’s attacks on Gaza in October 2023. The year-long conflict has had devastating consequences with Israeli airstrikes claiming the lives of approximately 3,700 Lebanese civilians and Hezbollah attacks leading to the loss of 130 Israeli lives.

What’s inside the agreement?

Israel will completely remove its military forces from Lebanon by January 26, 2025. Areas currently controlled by Hezbollah will be handed over to the Lebanese army and the local authority will start working here. 

This deal supports U.S. efforts to bring peace to the Middle East. It allows Israel to focus on its conflict with Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank, which could impact Palestinian civilians. But it will also boost the alliances between Iran, Russia, and China.
