anna delvey, kelly cutrone host a runway show on house rooftop (2)
Imagine a runway show on top of a New York City apartment building hosted by none other than Anna Delvey, who’s known for her colorful history as a society grifter.
Anna Delvey, whose real name is Sorokin, made quite a name for herself by conning wealthy New Yorkers. She even inspired a Netflix series. After serving prison time, she’s now under house arrest while facing deportation to Germany.
Enter Kelly Cutrone, a prominent fashion publicist, and the mastermind behind this unique event. Together with Anna, they created a “pop-up P.R. agency” called OutLaw to leverage Anna’s fame for someone else’s benefit and, perhaps, to rebuild her own reputation.
Now, you might wonder why Anna Delvey would be involved in the fashion world. Well, she has a knack for understanding how fashion can influence people, and she knows how to generate publicity. In her words, “I can get publicity — bad publicity, any publicity, just for taking out garbage.”
So, what’s the goal here? To draw attention to emerging fashion designer Shao Yang and her new label, Shao. And it worked, to some extent.
The fashion world, always in search of novelty, flocked to the event to catch a glimpse of the infamous Anna and, in the process, got to see Shao’s collection.
The show itself took place on the roof of Anna’s apartment building in the East Village, as she can’t leave the premises due to her legal situation.
Attendees, including fashion figures like Olivier Zahm and Nicola Formichetti, braved the rooftop, even though it wasn’t designed for large crowds.
Shao Yang’s collection was the star of the show, featuring genderless designs inspired by old New York. Despite the chaotic setting, the collection stood out with its sharp tailoring and distinctive color palette.
This fashion show event at the rooftop defied conventional fashion industry. The fashion industry is evolving, embracing the unconventional, and breaking free from the usual rules.
Whether you see it as a publicity stunt or a bold move, it’s clear that Anna Delvey and Shao Yang managed to attract people’s attention in the fashion world with this rooftop runway show.
