A Concerning Bedbug Outbreak Rules Discussions At Paris Fashion Week

Things are different this year as Paris is infested with bedbugs. Videos shared online show the insects crawling over seats of the Paris Metro, which carries over 5 million passengers daily.

Some Parisians have even reported bites at big-chain movie theatres. But they don’t seem too concerned as the metro, bars, and movie theatres are just as packed as they have always been.

Nonetheless, the infestation has been ruling discussions at Paris Fashion Week shows, with attendees trading tips on how to avoid catching them.

Tips encompass purchasing of $220 bedbug-killing heater at Amazon, avoiding the fabric seats in public transportation, and storing luggage in the bathtub.

Bedbug Outbreaks – A Sad Fact Of Large Urban Cities

While bedbugs are a common urban scourge, the outbreak in Paris seems a little bit alarming as some of the videos show bedbugs out in the middle of the day crawling on public transportation.

These insects often live in mattresses, clothing, linen, and carpets, and usually surface at night to feed. Their bites can cause itchiness, redness, swelling, and burning.

They are a sad fact of large urban cities. In fact, having a brush with bedbugs is such a universal experience that the New York’s health department has their own bedbug complaint line.

Bedbugs are an unwelcome reminder that regardless of wealth, influence, or fame, none of us are immune to the power of nature.

Possibility: Taking Bedbugs Back Home

Although money can keep you from taking the metro, you may still have to go through Paris’s Charles-de-Gaulle Airport to fly home – and rumors say the bugs are there too.

At Paris Fashion Week, the gossip about what hotels, restaurants, and bars may be infested have taken on a life of their own.

Nonetheless, as the shows come to a close, the influencers, stylists, and prominent stars from the fashion and entertainment world who flocked to the city will start to make their way home.

It’s possible travellers could bring the tiny bloodsucking insects back with them, but as long as they are aware of their surroundings, they should be fine.
