Where does Pope XIV stand on Political and Social Views? Read more for details

The Vatican released the White smoke on Thursday announcing the election of the New head of the church – Pope Leo XIV. After two days of conclave at the St Peter’s Basilica, the cardinals finally elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th pope who chose the name ‘Leo’ for his Papacy.

While the conclave elected the new head, a 69 year old Chicago born Pope Leo, the rest of the seems to question about the Pontiff’s background and his standings regarding political and social harmony and whether his ideologies are aligning with the late Pope Francis, who earned the deserving title ‘People’s Pope’.

Robert Prevost is the first American Pope who has served in Peru’s poorest enclave for two decades and for which he is claimed by many to be Latin American. The new pope’s standing on pressuring hot matters of the church are not revealed although Pope Leo is said to continue the path of his predecessors.

Pope Leo XIV’s standings and ideologies

Women in Church – Inclusion and Equality

The new Pope stands in harmony with late Pope Francis’ thoughts on Women in the Church as the late pope has managed to commision more leadership roles for women inside the church. He also commissioned the possibility of women becoming deacons and was keen on venturing more support.

Pope Leo XIV also stands parallel to this idea but also strictly supports Pope Francis’ standings on ordaining Women priests which was limited and Leo also expressed similar beliefs. Robert Prevost in an Vatican interview 2 years ago stated, “women can add a great deal to the life of the church on many different levels” and described establishing the roles of women in the church as a “slow process”. His statement regarding the women in leadership roles in the catholic church especially on clericalization of women, in his words “doesn’t necessarily solve a problem, it might make a new problem”.

LGBTQ+

Pope Francis is known for his inclusive and progressive ideologies and was a fair supporter of the LGBTQ+. His famous statement on Homosexuality, “If someone is gay and is searching for the Lord and has good will, then who am I to judge?”, in 2013 might not be agreed by Pope Leo.

The new pontiff shared his “sympathy” for beliefs and practices that are at odds with the gospel citing how media and popular shows portray same sex couples and their children are shown benignly and sympathetically.

Climate Crisis

Pope Leo stands strong on supporting the climate activism crisis who once suggested the people take actions rather than discussing the climate crisis. He also urged ‘Dominion over Nature’ should not be ‘Tyrannical’ when he spoke with Vatican News at the end of November 2024.

Compassion for Migrants

Pope Leo stands in unity with Francis’ who was activelyw helping and advocating for the immigrant issues. The new pope reportedly has more concern for the Venezuelan migrants of Peru, said his close associate Jesun Leon Angeles to Reuters.
