Venezuela’s Political Hopes Dim as Leader Vanishes

The people of Venezuela are now feeling sad and hopeless after the recent election. The main person who contested against the incumbent president Nicolas Maduro was forced to flee the country. It has made many Venezuelans feel like things won’t change.

The election was conducted on the 28th of June. The government claims that Maduro won, however, the individuals who do not like him are against this fact. According to them their candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez, triumphed by a huge margin.

Gonzalez has fled Venezuela for fear that he would be arrested. He is now in Spain seeking asylum. This has made many people in Venezuela lose any hope of change.

But many Venezuelans are also considering leaving the country as well. Though some are in the market already, it is safe to say that most of them are slowly phasing out. Stayers are beginning to lose hope in the possibility of change for the better. They are not demonstrating anymore, they believe that other countries won’t be of much assistance.

Some people believed that other countries may come in to assist. But up to this point in time, not much has transpired. Currently, some Venezuelan officials are under consideration of punishment by the United States but have not been punished yet. Many feel that if they come hard, it will make more individuals from Venezuela attempt to cross into the U.S.

However, the country that has recently become more of a critic of Venezuela is Brazil, which is a neighbor country. But overall, other countries appear to be uncertain as to how they should proceed.

The current government appears to be stronger now that Gonzalez has gone. Some believe that for a change to occur it has to be initiated by Venezuelans, especially the military.
