US Withdraws from World Health Organization: A Turning Point in Global Health Policy

This is an historic move as the US pulls out of World Health Organization to change the world health governance and funding scene. This move is in response to years of criticism by Washington regarding how the WHO has dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic and its political biases. Being one of the largest donors of the organization, the US withdrawal will pose some economic and operational difficulties to the UN health agency. According to the officials, the withdrawal indicates that it is moving to bilateral health partnerships, as opposed to multilateral interaction. In the meantime, international health analysts caution that the US pulling out of the World Health Organization may undermine the ability to coordinate resolutions to upcoming pandemics and reduce gains against such diseases as polio, HIV and tuberculosis.

Impact of the US Exit from WHOThe fact that the US has announced that it is pulling out of World Health Organization affirm the US has cut off all its funding and even recalled American officials working in WHO offices in countries across the world. The WHO has vindicated its operations by emphasizing its assistance in the surveillance of disease, distribution of immunizations, and in treaties on global health. As US withdrawal of World Health Organization decision becomes reality, the gap in budgets, job elimination, and lack of worldwide cooperation is becoming as a matter of concern. Analysts observe that the US intends to engage in other health partnerships but failure to coordinate with WHO can make it difficult to prepare the world to rise to the occasion in case of a crisis.
