Former Presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama were spotted sharing a laugh at Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
The unexpected moment occurred as they sat side by side at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., joining other past and current leaders to honor legacy of Jimmy Carter.
This interaction between Trump and Obama drew attention because of their history. Trump, during his presidency, amplified the false “birther” conspiracy about Obama, while Obama has repeatedly criticized leadership of Trump. Obama used to call him a threat to democracy. Yet the pictures from the funeral of Carter is showing different aside, chatting and laughing in what seemed like a genuine moment of civility.
In the funeral ceremony another key moment was when Trump shook hands with his former vice president Mike Pence. This was their first public interaction after the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, when Pence’s life was threatened by Trump’s supporters for certifying Joe Biden’s election victory.
The presence of key leaders like George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Vice President Kamala Harris presented a strong symbol of unity. Though they are divided by political ideologies but are connected with the flag of Great America!
