UN Calls for Urgent Global Action on AI, Similar to Climate Change

The UN said artificial intelligence should receive the same level of attention as climate change. A recent UN report suggests that the organization should lead global efforts to monitor and regulate AI. The report was prepared by the UN’s High-Level Advisory Body on AI. This panel recommend to setting up a panel like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to oversee AI developments and to also take notes of developing risks.

The report urges UN member nations to engage in discussions about AI’s risks and benefits and proposes creating an AI fund to help poorer nations develop and govern AI technologies. The rapid growth of AI like ChatGPT has sparked both excitement and concern at the same time, AI has the potential to improve but the fear lies inside is it could soon be hard to control.        There are many concerns around AI, like increasing cases of deep fake, rapid spread of fake information, and red cloud on many jobs and more.

China Raises Retirement Age to Address Aging Workforce and Declining Population

Global power U.S. and China proposed different approaches at the UN to enhance AI gradually and make it very useful to humankind. The U.S. focuses on “safe and trustworthy AI,” while China emphasizes cooperation in AI development. Despite their differences, all UN members have agreed to both proposals.

Experts believe that the UN has a big role to play in emerging AI, but individual countries must also help manage this quickly changing technology. The approach of the UN is centered on human rights, that aims to base AI rules on international law. Working together globally can help avoid repeating efforts and improve AI regulation, allowing nations to share their resources effectively.

The success of the efforts by the UN to develop AI will totally depend on how well initiatives are implemented. Experts agree that while there is potential for global cooperation the real challenge lies in the execution.
