UAE-US Trade Relations: A Growing Economic Partnership

The US and UAE have growing relations in the MENA region. If we talk about trade relations UAE has been the number one export market for the US in the MENA region since 2009.

Over the last 15 years trade relations between the UAE and the US have been growing and reaching new heights. Till 2023 the bilateral trade worth was over $31.4 billion.

With the increase of 19% rate from 2022 the USA was exporting goods of over $24.8 billion.

This strong trade relationship is because of the UAE’s increasingly diversified economy, with non-oil sectors accounting for more than 70% of the UAE’s GDP.

According to the UAE embassy report, apart from supporting the UAE with over 145,000 American jobs, US exports to the UAE are majorly focused on transportation and logistics like vehicles and their parts, computers and electronics, and manufacturing. Some top goods are aircraft, nuclear reactors, etc.

1 Texas

Texas is the top exporter of the United States to UAE, Between 2019 and 2023, Texas exported $17.4 billion worth of goods to the UAE. In 2023 alone, Texas saw a 23% increase in exports, reaching $4.5 billion.

A significant 93% of these exports in 2023 came from two key sectors: Computer/Electronics Products and Transportation Equipment.

The trade relationship between Texas and the UAE also had a substantial impact on job creation, generating around 37,000 jobs in 2023.

New York is the second largest exporter of United States to UAE.  Between the years of 2019 to 2023, NY exported goods worth $10.4 billion to the UAE. In 2023 this state exported around g $2.8 billion of goods in 2023.

The major sector of goods is Miscellaneous Manufacturing.

Because of the trade by the state of NY over 16,800 jobs were created in 2023.

California is the 3rd largest exporter of goods to the UAE. Between 2019 and 2023, California exported $9.2 billion worth of goods to the UAE. In 2023, exports grew by 15%, reaching $2.4 billion.

In 2023 95% of California’s exports to the UAE came from its top two sectors, with the Computer/Electronics Products sector being a major contributor.

This trade created about 13,200 jobs in California in 2023.

Florida is top 4th largest exporter of goods to the UAE. The trade was over $6.3 billion to the UAE in between the year of 2019 to 2023.

Computer & Electronics Products are the major goods material to export.

Because of the trade relation of Florida and UAE over 14,400 jobs were created in 2023.

5 New Jersey

New Jersey is the fifth largest exporter of goods to the UAE. The trade was over $5 billion between 2019 to 2023.

The major goods for exports are Computer & Electronics Products.

Because of this trade over 7,500 jobs were created in the year 2023.

Georgia is the 6th largest exporter of goods from the USA to UAE, the trade worth is $4.8B.

MICHIGAN, USA is the 9th largest exporter with a trade value of $3.1B with UAE between 2019 to 2023 and OHIO is the 10th largest exporter with the same value of $3.1B.
