UAE sends 14 tonnes of relief aid to help Ukrainians endure harsh winters

In another move that prominently represents the UAE’s commitment to its humanitarian obligations, the country on Friday sent an aircraft carrying 14 tonnes of relief aid to war-ravaged Ukraine.

The shipment will first be flown to neighbouring Poland and then sent to Ukraine. The aid includes LED bulbs, blankets, and personal care supplies to help the affected residents better cope with the harsh winter conditions, UAE’s official news agency WAM reported.

The relief aid is part of the Emirates’ ongoing humanitarian assistance aimed at helping the Ukrainians during a brutal invasion now in its second year.

Last October, the Mideast nation pledged $100 million to support the affected ones. It also established an air bridge that sent at least 11 planes with roughly 550 tonnes of relief aid, including a couple of aircraft from the International Humanitarian City in Dubai.

Since the invasion, the UAE has also delivered six ambulances and more than 2,500 generators to help the people in the war-torn nation and also those living as refugees in neighbouring countries, such as Poland, Bulgaria, and Moldova.

The Emirates has always been known for not saving its assistance for a specific region. This year, following the deadly earthquakes in Turkey and Syria on February 6, the country dispatched dozens of search and rescue personnel as well as doctors of various specialities to support victims of the humanitarian disaster.

Last year as well, the UAE became one of the prime supporters of flood victims in Pakistan, establishing an air bridge between the two countries for the transport of urgent relief supplies to the affected Pakistanis.

Through its efforts, the Emirates has constantly highlighted its growing emphasis on supporting victims of wars and natural disasters across the world, irrespective of region, religion, and diplomacy.
