UAE Reaffirms Commitment to Arab Causes at Inter-Parliamentary Conference

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has again proved its solidarity with the Arab issues especially the Palestinian issue at the 37th Extra-Ordinary Conference of the Arab Inter Parliamentary Union. At this important occasion, concurrently with the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland, on 15th of October, 2024, Saqr Ghobash, the Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) of UAE, headed the UAE delegation.

UAE’s loyal support of Arab rights

Saqr Ghobash stressed that the UAE’s foreign policy is driven by the Arab agenda since the country’s establishment by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The nation continues to fight for the Arab’s cause in the international arena and support a two-state solution in Palestine which should be recognised as an independent state with Jerusalem as its eastern part.

The FNC Speaker also emphasized on providing the humanitarian and medical support of the UAE during the recent conflict to both Palestinians and Lebanese people. The UAE under the presidency of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice Presidency of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has provided over 40 percent of the total international aid as desired to these regions.

Political and Humanitarian Diplomacy

The conference that was presided over by Ibrahim Boughali, the President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, Chair of the Algerian National People’s Assembly featured several Arab parliamentary representatives and ambassadors. In his reaction, Ghobash said that the UAE has been among the first countries to respond to the humanitarian crises in Gaza and Lebanon.

Reporting to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, the UAE has been a key player in providing aid for these affected populace during these times. Such commitment is in line with the humanitarian diplomacy and solidarity tradition of the nation.
