During the 57th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council a coalition of over 20 human rights organizations, including the Union Association for Human Rights, lauded the United Arab Emirates for its decision to pardon Bangladeshi nationals convicted of security-related crimes. The statement issued on September 9, 2024, praised the pardon as a clear demonstration of the UAE’s humanitarian values and its commitment to fostering tolerance under the leadership of President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Bangladeshi nationals arrested over security violations were serving lengthy prison sentences. The decision of UAE to grant clemency not only emphasizes its approach to rehabilitation but also highlights its broader dedication to promoting understanding and compassion. This act has been recognized as an important step toward maintaining peace and stability while respecting human rights.

Mohammed bin Zayed and Mohammed Younus held detailed talks about the pardon of Bangladeshi nationals.

Human rights organizations praised the UAE’s legal and justice system, stating that the presidential pardon reflects the UAE’s strong commitment to fair and independent legal processes.
