UAE Secures COSPAR 2028 Hosting Rights: A Milestone in Space Research

The UAE has been awarded the hosting rights for COSPAR 2028, the leading global space research conference. This significant achievement was announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence.

Sheikh Hamdan shared a post on his official Twitter account and said, “We are delighted to share that the UAE has won the bid to host COSPAR 2028, the world’s largest forum focused on space research.” “For the first time, this prestigious event will be held in the Arab world, bringing together over 3,000 researchers, experts, and scientists to present and discuss groundbreaking scientific discoveries.”

The UAE, a small Gulf nation, has emerged as a prominent hub for the global scientific community, especially in space exploration and research. Winning the bid to host COSPAR 2028 solidifies the nation’s role in fostering significant international cooperation in the space sector.

Sheikh Hamdan expressed his gratitude to the team at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, acknowledging their dedicated efforts in making this remarkable achievement possible.

The Hope Probe and the Emirates Mars Mission

The UAE achieved a historic milestone by launching the Hope Probe in the year 2020. A sophisticated spacecraft designed to study the Martian atmosphere. The Emirates Mars Mission aims to provide scientists with comprehensive insights into the climate dynamics of Mars, enhancing our understanding of the Red Planet.

Constellation of SAR Satellites

The UAE is also investing in a constellation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites. These satellites will produce detailed radar images of land use, ice cover, and surface changes, supporting various scientific and commercial applications such as oil spill tracking, maritime vessel monitoring, and crop yield analysis.

In Dec 2023, UAE’s National Space Science and Technology Center announced the implementation of the 813 satellite project. This project aims to deliver precise hyperspectral data and bolster space cooperation among Arab Cooperation Group countries. Funded by the Emirates Space Agency and in partnership with the United Arab Emirates University, it represents a significant step in regional space collaboration.

UAE is committed to following the footsteps of Hazza Al Mansouri. Hazza Al Mansouri was the UAE’s first man in space. Another person is Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, he returned from an ix-month mission on board the International Space Station in September and has since been appointed to the UAE Cabinet as Minister of State for Youth Affairs.
