Tyson Fury who is the former world heavyweight champion has announced his retirement from boxing at the age of 36. This decision of retirement announced weeks after his loss to Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch. This was the second defeat of career of Fury.
In a brief statement Fury stated,“I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing, It’s been a blast, and I’ve loved every single minute of it.”
As Fury is known for his flamboyant personality, he ended with a cryptic line: “Dick Turpin wore a mask.”
Journey of Fury in the ring has been extraordinary. His debut in the boxing ring was in 2015. He had secured headlines for weeks after defeating Wladimir Klitschko. After a hiatus to battle mental health challenges Fury returned to become a two-time champion cementing his legacy with a stunning win over Deontay Wilder in 2020.
Frank Warren who is English boxing manager and promoter and the founder of Queensberry Promotions praised career of Fury. He said, “probably the best British heavyweight of his generation. He’s done everything he can do. He’s been a world star, had exciting fights, and shown incredible heart.”
Fury has a record of 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw in his career. He showed full determination in his fights. Though this announcement of retirement is a shock, and it is unclear if this is truly the end of his boxing career, but his influence on the sport is unforgettable.
