“Trump’s World”: Kyiv Prepares for New Reality as Trump Promises War’s End

Throughout his U.S. presidential campaign, Donald Trump asserted he could end Russia’s war in Ukraine within 24 hours. Now, with Trump declaring victory, many in the U.S. and worldwide are left wondering: will he follow through on his numerous foreign policy threats, promises, and declarations?

Ukrainians responded with a mix of concern and determination to the news of Donald Trump’s return as U.S. president after he pledged to “stop wars” in a speech on Wednesday morning.

With nearly three years of war behind them officials in Kyiv now acknowledge they himay need to turn to other Western allies for support as they face renewed Russian attacks, which are now reportedly backed by North Korean troops. The U.S. has been Ukraine’s top supporter in terms of funding, but Trump has often insisted he could end the conflict in Ukraine within a day and has threatened to halt aid to Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a diplomatic message on social media, recalling his “great meeting” with Trump in September and acknowledging Trump’s “peace through strength” approach. Zelenskyy added, “We rely on continued strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States.”

Tymofiy Mylovanov the president of the Kyiv School of Economics posted on his  Facebook post, “We’ll have to live in Trump’s world now. I am very skeptical that the war will end in 24 hours, as he promised. But we definitely won’t get bored.”
