Trump Suspends Ukraine Aid, Demands ‘Appreciation’ from Zelensky

President Trump has paused U.S. military aid to Ukraine. This is increasing the tensions between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the United States. The White House stated the pause is meant to ensure aid aligns with efforts to achieve peace.

The aid cut by the US will impact the delivery of anti-tank weapons, and other military supplies. Trump is unwilling to use US aids for Ukraine unless circumstances change.

The move pressures Zelensky, as Ukraine continues to rely on Western support against Russia. Reports show that U.S. has provided around $183 billion in aid to Ukraine after the start of war between Ukraine and Russia. It’s important to note the aid by United States is far more than the support of the European Union, which is around $145 billion.

Recent tensions between Trump and Zelensky intensified after Trump called the Ukrainian leader a “dictator without elections” and blamed Ukraine for the war. Zelensky dismissed the claims, saying Trump was influenced by disinformation.

The conflict came to a head in a heated Oval Office meeting last Friday, where Trump canceled peace talks and left a minerals deal between the U.S. and Ukraine unsigned.

Trump later stated the deal could be revived if Zelensky showed “appreciation” for U.S. assistance.
