Trump Faces Trouble in North Carolina Rally

Donald Trump went to North Carolina to campaign on Saturday. And in this most fateful of states for election, he encountered his woes.

The candidate for governor from the Republican side, Mark Robinson – whom Trump often describes as the modern Martin Luther King Jr. – did not withdraw from the race by Thursday evening. That was even so after NAACP and newspapers and some Republicans in Congress asked him to drop out.

CNN stated that Robinson posted vulgar remarks on the message board of a porn site. Racially charged the man identified himself as a black N A Z I and called for the reinstatement of slavery and used lewd language.

Trump himself did not invite Robinson to the rally and did not say his name in his speech.

His opponent, Kamala Harris the incumbent Vice President of the USA, began launching a TV commercial which linked Robinson to Trump. Trump is very positive about Robinson in the ad, while Robinson himself mentions that there is no abortion in North Carolina.

North Carolina is a critical state to any campaign that Trump has for the presidency. He only managed a 1% margin in the state in the 2020 polls.

JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, was more reserved and said that the Robinson scandal would be resolved in the “court of public opinion.” He said that it remains the people of North Carolina’s decision when it comes to Robinson.

Trump loves sponsoring candidates who have good things to say about him irrespective of the problems that he has with any of them. A number of these candidates obtained the Republican party nominations but lost in the direct/ general elections.

Some Republicans feel that the Robinson issue will be detrimental to their gubernatorial candidate and perhaps other candidates such as Trump.

Republican Senator Thom Tillis called Thursday a ‘tough day’ and encouraged his fellow party members to focus on the contests that they could win. He stated that North Carolina was central to Trump’s strategy.

Conservative blogger Erick Erickson has been highly critical of Trump’s candidate selections, stating: “Every time you let Donald Trump vet candidates for you, it goes wrong.”
