Trump Claims Close Relationship with Putin, Vows to End Ukraine War

Currently, former president, who is now candidate for president, Donald Trump, got to the headlines because of what he said about Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin. In a massive rally with his followers in Pennsylvania, Trump stated he and Putin are the best of friends. He also mentioned that if he were still the president of the United States, Russia would not invade Ukraine. These comments are provoking a lot of discussion as people speculate on Trump’s friendship with Putin and what might happen if Trump gets re-elected this year.

Some political scientists are charged with interest with certain statements made by the former president to Russian media about a possible meeting with Putin. He mentioned that “I have a perfect relationship with Putin” and added that he had even prevented Putin from invading Ukraine.

Besides comments about Putin, Trump also said that he has a very good relationship with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. He vowed to bring an end to the war in Ukraine, saying, “I am going to get that war ended… I am going to try to get that war ended as president-elect.” Trump was also keen on ending the loss of lives in the war.

Post-Presidency Communications with Putin

New information that the author of the book “War” Bob Woodward claimed that Trump spoke with Putin several times after being impeached. This information has been used by Vice President Kamala Harris and her team to attack the Republican candidate. The nature, as well as the scope of such rumored conversations, continues to provide another contentious issue in the emerging political discourse.

Such statements by Trump have brought back debates over his foreign policy agenda and stand with Russia. Trump’s remarks about international politics especially about Russia and Ukraine will continue to attract the attention of the public as the campaign for the 2024 election gains momentum.
