Top 10 Countries Most Vulnerable to Climate Change

We are already living through climate change; it is no longer something that will happen in the future.  Millions of people around the world are being affected by rising temperatures, storms, rising ocean levels, and weather that is hard to predict.  All countries are vulnerable in some way, but some are more susceptible than others. This could be because of their location, population density, or lack of resources.

By 2025, these are the 10 most at-risk countries:

 1. Bangladesh

Bangladesh is at risk of floods, storms, and higher sea levels because it is in a low-lying delta.  Flooded places affect the homes, farms, and ways of making a living for millions of people.

 2. The Philippines

As part of the Pacific “typhoon belt,” the Philippines is often hit by tropical storms that cause floods.  The people who live there are also affected by cutting down trees and eroding coastlines.

 3. India

India is becoming more sensitive to climate change as heat waves, unpredictable monsoons, and a lack of water get worse.  Millions of people depend on agriculture for their income, and climate shocks have a lot to do with agriculture.

 4. Vietnam

Vietnam has a long coastline, which means that the cities, rice farms, and fishing villages are all at risk from rising sea levels and typhoons.

 5. Pakistan

In the north, glaciers are melting, and river basins are flooded. Pakistan is one of the countries most likely to be affected by climate change and its effects.

 6. Haiti

Hurricanes, floods, and droughts happen all the time in Haiti, and the country’s poor infrastructure and lack of money make it hard to heal.

 7. Thailand

Thailand’s coastal towns and farming areas are becoming more and more vulnerable to flooding, storms, and changes in when and how much it rains.

 8. Myanmar

Rising temperatures, cyclones, and storms will often affect Myanmar’s farming and coastal communities, putting food security at risk.

 9. Kenya

Droughts and unpredictable rains happen in Kenya, which affects the water supply, farming, and animals in dry and semi-dry places.

 10. Mozambique

Mozambique is at risk of severe cyclones and floods. Communities that live near rivers and the coast are the most at risk of being forced to move and losing their businesses.

 The Problem of Climate

These countries show how climate change affects people and how geography, poverty, and a lack of economic support make people vulnerable.  To protect lives and ways of making a living, we will need global relationships, help getting ready for disasters, and help adapting to climate change.
