Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer ‘Barbie’ has broken multiple records ever since its worldwide release on July 21. The force behind the viral pink fever, the billion-dollar-earning project is still going strong, but couldn’t remain the highest earner during the long weekend.
While ‘Barbie’ is still performing great worldwide, No More Bets from China dominated the box office during the weekend, raking in a whopping $88 million between Friday and Sunday in its country of origin alone, as per a report by Variety.
The long weekend saw the Greta Gerwig directorial earn $33.7 million in North America and another $45.1 million globally – bringing the total collection during its fourth weekend to $78.8 million. But No More Bets surpassed the number, surprising people across the globe.
The Chinese film, starring Lay Zhang and Gina Jin in lead roles, is on its way to becoming the most successful film project in the country in recent times. Since its release on Wednesday, the movie has earned $247.5 million, as per the Chinese box office data from Artisan Gateway.
Over $100 million from its entire box office collection to date has come from China alone. Meanwhile, ‘Barbie’ recently created history after its 17-day run in the theatres as it crossed $1 billion at the global box office – making Gerwig the first solo female director to achieve the feat.
