The UAE’s Rise as the AI Capital of the World: ‘From Vision to Reality’

The UAE is rapidly adopting changes achieving milestones and setting an example for the world. In recent times UAE has become the global capital of innovation. Apart from support from tech giants visionary leadership is playing a vital role in strengthening UAE. UAE is moving towards becoming the global powerhouse of AI.

UAE appointed the 1st AI minister in the world in 2017. In the age of 27, Omar bin Sultan al-Olama became 1st AI minister of UAE in the world. He accepts the challenge to turn the UAE into a powerhouse of AI by 2031.

In a speech last September 2023,  the CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman said the UAE  “has been talking about AI since before it was cool.”

Recently Microsoft announced to invest $1.5 billion in G42. G42 is a prominent AI-based firm in the UAE. The purpose of this investment is to promote AI innovations and the country will get support in this. This deal reflects the UAE’s growing reach in AI innovation on the global stage.

The CEOs of OpenAI and Microsoft, as well as other key players in the tech industry, also praised the UAE for making major strides in AI development. The name of Satya Nadella, Jensen Huang, and Elon Musk are on the list who praised UAR for its steps in developing AI.

The ambition of the UAE AI is to create a strong ecosystem conducive to innovation and growth. Initiatives such as the creation of MGX, an AI investment firm dedicated to advancing cutting-edge technologies, symbolize the country’s commitment to nurturing a thriving AI ecosystem.

The Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) and its Technology Innovation Institute (TII) have played a key role in promoting technology, the release of Falcon, a state-of-the-art large language model (LLM).

The open-source release of Falcon underlines the UAE’s commitment to knowledge sharing and global collaboration for AI development.

Apart from visionary leadership, another key pillar of developing AI while collaborating with the world is talent management. UAE is promoting and nurturing tech professionals.

Under the guidance of leaders like Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE is stepping towards responsible and inclusive AI development with a keen focus on social impact and ethical considerations.
