The 2023 Novel of Samantha Harvey Conquests the Esteemed “Booker Prize 2024”

On November 12, 2024 at the Old Billingsgate in London the wonderful event of “Booker Prize 2024” took place. Edmund de Waal who is one of the Chair of judges announced Samantha Harvey as the winner of the Booker Prize and a trophy has been presented by the 2023 winner of Booker prize, Paul Lynch.

The theme of the 2024 Booker Prize is “fault lines of our times”, which includes identity, climate change, belonging, isolation, trauma & resilience, justice, and social inequality.

Why Samantha was the only author from UK?

It took a moment for many literary personas and global authors which raised a question that why Samantha was the only author who got selected into the Booker Prize. If we look into the lists of global lineupit is lucid that it resonates the broader range of international voices who achieved the themes global issues encountered by the individuals through their prodigious stories. It is reported that since the year 2014, the selection has been made with the mix of different authors who hail from different regions. The significant factor of this edition is the lineup of nominees is dominated by the global women authors.

Samantha Harvey’s “Orbital”

It is a cloud nine moment for the British author Samantha Harvey whose book about a wounded world has won the most prestigious award in the literature. “Orbital” is about the journey of six astraunauts who are from different countries like USA, Russia, Japan, Italy and Britain. It covers the perspectives regarding the humanity, God’s nature, purpose/meaning of life, and a detailed narration of the astraunauts’ duties. It explores the global theme, which is the climate change, a life threat to every human on the earth now and in the forthcoming days.

“I thought of it as space pastoral – a kind of nature witting about the beauty of space” said Samantha Harvey during the eve of “2024 Booker Prize”.
