‘SYDNEY SWEENEY HAS GREAT JEANS’: Denim ad campaign trending for intriguing reasons

This summer, one particular denim ad campaign is doing the rounds on social media, but not for good reasons entirely. This is about American Eagle jeans, something that has caught the attention of multiple people across the globe, including US President Donald Trump.

SYDNEY SWEENEY HAS GREAT JEANS‘ campaign, featuring the Euphoria actress that broke on July 23, has triggered a lot of outrage for playing off the sound-alike terms ‘jeans’ and ‘genes’. The ad has definitely become a flashpoint in the escalating culture debate.

But one of the things that is missing from almost all discussions is that this is an ad campaign solely aiming to sell more jeans. The fact that the campaign is trending means that American Eagle could reap much greater returns than originally planned, and also in a longer period.

“Sydney Sweeney has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there”

Sydney Sweeney, a blue-eyed blonde, faced backlash on the internet as she said in a video: “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour…My jeans are blue.”

The video has potentially been removed from American Eagle’s social media channels. But the damage is already done. The ad has triggered a lot of heated discussions on race and beauty standards. Donald Trump is also speaking about the ad campaign.

The US president has run to the defence of the Euphoria actress by declaring on his social media platform Truth Social: “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there … the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves’.”
