Spanish Football Unites, LaLiga and Clubs Rally Together for Flood Relief Efforts in Spain

LaLiga and its clubs are coming forward to help those who are impacted by the recent flash floods in Spain. According to the reports and local news because of heavy flood and storm DANA there are confirmed 158 deaths in the region and it can be raised.

According to the new announcement La Liga will promote a fundraising campaign this weekend. They will promote the campaign through match broadcasts and their social media channels to raise money for the Red Cross.

In a statement released on Thursday, LaLiga expressed its condolences. They said,  “Spain’s professional football joins in solidarity with the families of the victims and the missing.”

Real Madrid has also announced a contribution to the relief efforts of one million euros to support those affected by the disaster.

“The Real Madrid Foundation and the Red Cross have launched a fundraising campaign to aid those impacted by the storm. The club has decided to support this initiative with a donation of one million euros to help the many families in critical need,” the club said in its announcement.

In light of the tragedy the Spanish FA postponed seven midweek Cup matches and all games scheduled in Valencia’s eastern region for this weekend. They have also called for a minute’s silence before matches to honor the victims.

Six Copa del Rey matches that were postponed will be rescheduled for next week with only Real Sociedad’s game against Jove Espanyol in Alicante still awaiting a new date. LaLiga has requested that the ten affected clubs in the top two divisions propose new dates by next Tuesday.

Additionally the LaLiga match between Valencia and Real Madrid, along with Villarreal’s game against Rayo Vallecano, has been postponed. Valencia has opened the Mestalla stadium as a drop-off location for donations of food and essential items to aid those in need.
