SpaceX is Launching UAE’s Thuraya-4 Satellite for Enhanced Mobile Connectivity
SpaceX was able to launch the UAE client Thuraya satellite mobile connectivity satellite in Space42 on 3 January. The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, at 8:27 p.m. Eastern, putting the all-electric satellite in geostationary transfer orbit. Developed by Airbus for the Eurostar Neo Communications satellite platform, Thuraya-4 offers narrow band L-band connectivity achieving a 12-meter diameter Parabolic Antenna for Europe, Africa, Central Asian and Middle Eastern regions.
Thuraya-4 was ordered by Yahsat in 2020 to replace old Boeing satellites in GSO orbit. These improvements are expected to enable a superior satphone voice and data coverage to deliver increasing connectivity requirements for mobile devices.
The consolidation of Yahsat and AI firm Bayanat creates Space42 to use Thuraya-4 as a basis for launching AI-driven geographic and blended connectivity offerings. Mr Ali Al Hashemi, the CEO to the satellite on the aims of the satellite to foster innovative services in the world.
It is also seeking to offer broadband and TV services with solutions for Al Yah-4 and Al Yah-5 which are expected to be rolled out in 2027 and 2028 respectively. Another of this company’s strategies for multiple orbits is based on two low earth orbit satellites which add to its versatility.
SpaceX which had 134 launches in 2024 wants to launch 175 -180 launches in 2025. Thuraya-4, which was delayed by Airbus manufacturing problems, had been planned for 2023 but points to the increasing development of satellite-based AI solutions for new markets.
