seattles rising star cole young set for mlb debut this weekend
Top second base prospect Cole Young is getting ready for the major leagues and the Mariners are scheduled to make the call-up this weekend. Over the last month, the 21-year-old has done very well for Triple-A Tacoma and has moved up to the majors.
Jerry Dipoto affirmed that Young has proven he is ready to be promoted, as there’s nothing further the team wants him to demonstrate. He was pulled from Friday’s Triple-A game as a tactical move, a good sign for his upcoming move to the majors.
Throughout May, Young is hitting the ball well, showing an average of .370 and a strong OPS of 1.146. In his monthly statistics, he has 37 hits, five home runs, three triples and 10 doubles and he has a great discipline at the plate, with 15 walks and only eight strikeouts.
He has shaken off a poor start to Triple-A ball, where he started with a .190 average over the first month. Trusting his natural skills instead of giving too much thought to his game was the key change that allowed Rivera to succeed.
Seattle counts on Young to play a big part in their playoff effort during October. English’s being a former first-rounder in 2022 shows that the franchise is willing to invest in local talent to reach success.
