Scottie Scheffler was Arrested Before PGA Championship Round 2

Louisville Metro Police arrested World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler. This happened today on Friday after trying to drive into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club, the venue of this week’s PGA Championship.

After when a man was killed by a shuttle bus around 5 a.m. ET the traffic was stopped.  Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. These are criminal charges.

Though it was confirmed that Scheffler was released without bail at 8:40 a.m. ET Friday.

Shortly before his scheduled tee-off time on Friday morning, Scheffler called the incident the result of a “major misunderstanding” in a statement.

Scheffler said in a statement, “This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.”

He continued saying “Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective.”

According to witnesses on the ground, after the accident Scheffler tried to flee the crime scene, the police warned him and asked him to stop but he continued driving his car for about 10 to 20 yards towards the entrance.

After some time, Scheffler talked to the police officer via the window of the car. The police officer grabbed Scheffler’s arm and pulled him out of the car.

Police said- he is going to jail right now!

The 27-year-old Scheffler had won four of his last five starts, including his second major championship at the Masters in April.

The start of the second round was delayed after the incident of killing a man on a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club. That man tried to cross Shelbyville Road around 5 a.m. and unfortunately lost his breath on the spot.

After the delay, the second round of the PGA match had been scheduled to start at 7:15 ET.
