The Unyielding Spirit of Ukraine: Citizen Drones and Global Aid

Last updated on September 10th, 2024 at 07:43 am

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 22, 2022. This marked a significant escalation in the conflict between the two countries, which had been ongoing since Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the subsequent conflict in eastern Ukraine.

From then till today, Ukraine has been fighting with Russia to protect its border, nationality, and pride. The international community is supporting Ukraine by providing various military aid, weapons, and equipment. NATO allies are playing a major role in supporting Ukraine.

When the war dragged on for 2.5 years the news of the delivery of each weapon to Ukraine is a hope for Ukraine, it is a piece of good news for the country. Because Ukraine is a small country, the world never thought that Ukraine would be able to hold out against Russia for so long. But international support and the high spirit among Ukrainian citizens make it possible, but we cannot turn a blind eye to reality. To remain active in the war, Ukraine needs support with weapons, drones, tanks, troops, and much more.

There is no doubt that Ukrainians are showing great affection towards their country and are participating in the war to protect their country from Russian invasion. Recently a news caught the attention of the media. Ukrainian citizens are building drones at home to support their country’s defense team. This is because although NATO allies and the United States are announcing large amounts of aid, the process is slow, taking a lot of time to reach Ukraine.

According to the News Nation reports a citizen of Ukraine, Solomiia said- “I do it for myself, for my family and my children, because I want my daughter to play in the sun instead of in a bomb shelter,”.  “I have put together eight drones so far. I got money for about six drones.”

Solomiia is one of the thousands of volunteer workers in Ukraine who are building drones on tables at night.

Arms shipments from the West are dependent on political issues, so Ukraine is asking its citizens to actively participate in war.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned on Sunday that Russia is gearing up to intensify its offensive along Ukraine’s northern border. This announcement came as the death toll from an aerial bomb attack on a large construction supplies store in Kharkiv rose to 14.

The Saturday afternoon bombing in Kharkiv also resulted in 43 injuries and left 16 people missing, according to Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov.

In a video statement from Kharkiv, Zelenskyy mentioned that Russia is preparing for offensive actions approximately 90 kilometers (55 miles) northwest of Ukraine’s second-largest city.
