K-pop star Rosé and Bruno Mars will perform their viral hit APT. live for the first time today at the MAMA Awards in Osaka, Japan. The song, inspired by a South Korean drinking game, was released last month and has already hit nearly 400 million views on YouTube. Its catchy “apateu” chant, meaning apartment in Korean, and electro-pop beats have made it a global sensation. It’s also one of the most popular tracks on TikTok, sparking a viral dance trend.
The performance was announced by South Korean music channel Mnet, calling it the “world’s first performance” of APT. The MAMA Awards, a major event in K-pop culture, is being held in Los Angeles and Osaka this year.
Rosé is part of the global phenomenon Blackpink. The first K-pop girl group to top the US Billboard 200 and headline Coachella. She teamed up with Bruno Mars after signing a solo deal with Atlantic Records, his label.
“I knew people would dance to it, but I didn’t expect it to go viral so fast,” Rosé told i-D magazine. The song is so addictive that some South Korean students avoided it before a big exam, saying it was too distracting.
Rosé born Roseanne Park grew up in Australia and New Zealand before training to become a K-pop idol.
