Nick Kurtz Makes Baseball History: Oakland A’s Rookie Hits 4 Home Runs in Single Game

The Oakland Athletics had a memorable night as it happened on Friday when their rookie sensation Nick Kurtz became the first player in the history of baseball to achieve something special. Nick Kurtz was the first rookie to ever hit four home runs in the same game, in a superb performance against the Houston Astros, an unheard-of feat that has resulted in only 20 players in Major League Baseball history having accomplished this feat alone.

This rookie on the Oakland A has not only made history after hitting four home runs, but also he has conquered the game in all possible aspects. The perfect 6-for-6 night gave Nick Kurtz 19 total bases to score 8 runs. His great performance aided the Athletics to demolish the Astros 15-3 at Daikin Park in Houston.

Nick Kurtz Sets Multiple Records in Historic Performance

It was not only the 4 home runs in a game that made the incredible night of Nick Kurtz. The Oakland Athletics rookie was the first in baseball history to end the game with not least 6 hits, 6 runs, and 8 RBIs in one game. His 19 total bases set a tie record founded before on May 23, 2002, by Shawn Green.

The Oakland A stars young star demonstrated his strength in the first moments of the game. Nick Kurtz had three hits off Astros rookie starter Ryan Gusto, one off the wall in left field in the second, a home run way off the wall in the right field in the second, and a ball in the cone in deep left-center in the fifth. The better the game, the better Kurtz’s MLB performance would improve.

He hit his third home run in the eighth inning off of Houston reliever Kaleb Ort when Nick Kurtz ambushed a first-pitch fastball. The next inning (ninth), he came up against position player Cooper Hummel of the Athletics rookie, and poked a low 77.6 mph pitch into the Crawford Boxes in left field to etch his name into the record books with his 4th career home run.

Oakland Athletics Rookie Continues Impressive Season

The historic game was simply the newest addition to what has been an incredible first-year career by Nick Kurtz. Oakland Athletics picked him with the number four selection in the draft last July, and he has not disappointed as to why he was substantially picked as a high suitor.

Nick Kurtz has been one of the best players in the major league in hitting since he made his debut in MLB on April 23. At the moment, his slash line stands at .305/.374/.686 with 271 at-bats in the major leagues. Better still, players with higher OPS than Kurtz (1.060) are only Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.
