greenland pm rejects u.s. annexation 'we don't want to be americans'
Greenland is a hot topic of discussion since US President Donald Trump expressed their interest in Greenland after Donald Trump Jr.’s visit to Greenland spread rumors and the final press conference where Trump said, “We need Greenland for national security purposes. People don’t even know if Denmark has any legal right to it. But if they do, they should give it up.”
In a recent announcement, Prime Minister of Greenland Múte Egede clearly stated that his country has no interest in becoming part of the United States. In his recent talk with Fox News, he said, “The Greenlandic people don’t want to be Americans.”
Though he said Greenland is supporting strong ties with the U.S. through NATO.But the value of their country will not permit them to merge. “We want a strong partnership with the U.S., but we don’t want to be Americans,” Egede said.
During this session, when came about the Independence from Denmark, Egede left the decision to his people. “It’s up to the Greenlandic people to decide when we want to be independent,” he said, reiterating that Greenland would always remain part of the Western alliance.
