After the Australian Open exit, the Kazakh tennis star Elena Rybakina is set to defend her title at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open 2025.
Rybakina has great memories in Abu Dhabi. She lifted the trophy last year with a dominant victory over Daria Kasatkina. Returning as the top seed, she is determined to reclaim the title. “The loss at the Australian Open is my biggest motivation to win here again,” she told Emirates News Agency.
Her preparation started immediately after landing in Abu Dhabi. She resumed training to adjust to the conditions and sharpen her game. The World No. 5 knows the competition will be tough, but she is ready for the challenge.
This tournament also marks Rybakina’s first event with Davide Sanguinetti as her courtside coach. After parting ways with Goran Ivanisevic, she continues working with her longtime coach Stefano Vukov, despite his suspension from the WTA. Sanguinetti’s role will be crucial in helping her navigate the tournament.
Rybakina begins her title defense against Katy Volynets, ranked No. 68. They last met at Roland Garros 2022, where Rybakina dominated in straight sets. While Volynets is a talented counter-puncher, Rybakina’s powerful game makes her the favorite to advance.
With renewed determination and a title to defend, Rybakina is ready to make a statement in Abu Dhabi.
