Michael Cera’s directorial debut titled ‘Love in not the Answer’ – Pamela Anderson, Jamie Dornan and other on board

MIchael Cera takes on the Director’s chair with his upcoming project ‘Love is not the Answer’ with roping in some of the best set of actors for his debut. Cera was last spotted in Wes Anderson’s ‘The Phoenician Scheme’ and will be attending the Cannes 2025 will be filming his feature film soon. 

Cera known for his works in ‘Barbie’, ‘Scott Pilgrim vs the World’, ‘Superbad’ and other impressive titles will direct ‘The Last Showgirl’ actress Pamela Anderson, ‘Philomena’ actor Steve Coogan, ‘Belfast’ actor Jamie Dornan and Fred Hechinger of ‘Gladiator 2’ in ‘Love is not the Answer’. The movie is produced by 2am’s Christine D’Souza Gelb, David Hinojosa and Kevin Rowe with mk2 films distributing the rights internationally. 

Dornan was last seen in the 2024 action film ‘Heart of a Stone’ while Steve Coogan starred in ‘The Penguin Lessons’. Michael Cera apart from Wes Anderson’s ‘The Phoenecian Scheme’ has ‘The Running Man’, a dystopian sci-fi action film starring Glen Powell and voices in the animation ‘Santa’s Magic Crystal’ for release. 

The plot of ‘Love is not the Answer’ is not revealed but is in the vein of the story that is “precise yet unpredictable, absurdist comedy that moves between hilarity and heartbreak as it explores modern loneliness and the search for connection”, reports Variety. 

While many of the popular comedic actors have taken upon directing, Cera has once revealed his desire to direct and write an adaptation of Charles Portis’ ‘Master of Atlantis’. With his efficient and timely comedy sense, Michael Cera has been one of the best in his field who is now contending for his debut film at the Cannes Film Festival 2025.
