Met Gala and Kerala’s Strong Connection – Know about Cherthala based Artisans

From a small town in Kerala to the steps of Met, the story of three years of strong artistic connection continues. The Met Gala is a fashion fundraiser event that is a centre of attraction for their fashion game and the celebrities in attendance. While the focus is all on the guests and their fashion game, have you ever wondered about the magnanimous carpet draped over the steps that set the vibe and theme of the year.

Met Gala Carpet from Kerala

For the past three years, The Met Gala carpet is produced out of India’s southernmost state Kerala, where the artisans from a small town near Alappuzha are making the carpets. This quiet town in Kerala takes on the role of making the massive carpet that decorate the floors and steps of the Met Gala, an underlying canvas for the spectacular showcase of some of the finest fashion works.

Cherthala, the town that hosts Neytt by Extraweave, a manufacturing facility is responsible for creating the 63,000 sq.ft carpet that is made with eco conscious materials. After the carpet was woven in Kerala, it was hand painted in the United States by artist Cy Gavin who was inspired by the Daffodils outside his studio with a mythological name of Narcissus in Greek.

The Midnight Blue carpet served the purpose of a subtle, unbothered yet thematic canvas for the celebrities to roam around and strike a pose. This marks the third year of association between the Gala and Neytt, the statement of craftsmanship along with sustainable production made its worth and popularity even more.
