Legendary Music Producer Quincy Jones Passes Away at 91

Quincy Jones the iconic composer and producer known for shaping music with artists from Ray Charles to Michael Jackson has passed away at age 91. His family confirmed the news.

According to NewsWeeks, “With full but broken hearts, we share the news of our father and brother’s passing,” his family said. “Quincy lived a remarkable life, bringing love and joy to the world through his music, and his heart will beat on for eternity.”

Reuters confirmed the news on its news platform. 

Jones was a true pioneer in music renowned for his work across jazz pop, film scores, and television. Highlights of his extraordinary career include composing the Oscar-winning score for In the Heat of the Night producing Michael Jackson’s iconic Thriller and bringing together stars for the charity single We Are the World.

Born in Chicago Quincy’s passion for music began early, leading him to perform with jazz bands as a teen and eventually study at Schillinger House (now Berklee College of Music). He went on to collaborate with legends like Lionel Hampton and Frank Sinatra, and he mentored talents such as Will Smith.

In addition to his music Jones left a mark as a record executive, magazine founder, and civil rights advocate. He continued creating and inspiring until the end, leaving behind seven children, three ex-wives, and a legacy that will echo in music history forever.
