What are Labubu Dolls? The Internet’s new obsession sells for $150,000!

One of the latest internet trends that took off seemingly immediately is the Labubu Dolls, a monster plush doll that is certified by celebrities like Dua Lipa, Lisa and others. The toy is one of the most sought after possessions to be popular in the social media now with the demand surge hitting highs and one particular version selling hundreds of thousands of dollars. 

What are Labubu Dolls?

First appearing in the 2015 book series, based on Nordic fairy tales, the Labubu Dolls are now at the height of their popularity. Created by Hong Kong based artist Kasing Lung, the dolls are not literally a pleasing toy for kids but for ‘Kidults’. 

With pointy ears, ragged, animalistic wide grin, the Labubu toys are obsessed over by celebrities, influencers and every ‘kidult’ with adult money. The craze for the dolls have skyrocketed since many celebrities and social media influencers posted about it. The dolls all come in a blond box which itself adds a surprise element to the buzz. 

How much are the Lubabu Dolls cost?

The price of Labubu dolls may vary depending on the size, range, character and rarity of the piece. The price range can be put around 50 yuan, approx $7, and can reach even high depending on the market. 

‘Secret’ series Labubu dolls may go up to $700 and the latest news of the highest price tag ever put on a Labubu doll in an auction in China spreads shockwaves. The auction sale part of a Yongle International Auction is exclusively dedicated for the sale of Labubu dolls. 

A life sized Labubu Doll was sold at the Longle Auction for a massive price of 1.08 Million yuan, approx $150,000 in Beijing, setting a new record sale for the ‘Blind Box’ set sales. The auction was approached by thousands of people bidding on the doll with over 200 people present in person.
