KFC Relocates to Texas: The Reason Behind Moving from Kentucky

The fast food giant founded by Colonel Harland Sanders, KFC is relocating its corporate headquarters for the US from Louisville, Kentucky to Plano, Texas. The decision forms part of Yum! Brands, KFC’s parent company, restructuring plan for aligning some major brands. Therefore, KFC and Pizza Hut would be sitting out of Texas now, while Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill will remain in California.

According to reports, the relocation will affect up to 100 corporate employees, with more anticipated during the following year and a half.Yum! Brands is offering relocation assistance to all affected employees to aid them in regards to their smooth transition. David Gibbs, Yum! Brand’s CEO, declares that such steps shall position the firm for sustained growth to the benefit of its customers, employees, franchisees and shareholders.

The bigger picture is that companies are moving to Texas because of its business friendly nature, tax incentives and regulatory advantages. It has disappointed some Kentucky leaders including Governor Andy Beshear, to see KFC leave the homestead. Yet Yum! Brands remains committed to a strong presence in Louisville, promising a $1 million scholarship endowment at the University of Louisville and a flagship KFC restaurant.
