Analyzing Kamala Harris’s Potential Foreign Policy Agenda

American Vice President Kamala Harris has been doing the rounds as she is expected to stay with President Joe Biden’s foreign policy playbook on key issues such as the Russia-Ukraine war, dealings with China and Iran along with last but not the least pressuring Israel to back out of the Gaza Strip and stop the genocide. This is only if she replaces Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket and wins the November elections.

This took place as Joe Biden dropped out of the race to the White House and endorsed her in place of him on Sunday, 21st July 2024. According to Biden, Harris would bring the much required on-the-job experience, along with strengthening the global relations of the USA as she has quite good contacts with the leaders of most countries including the members of NATO.

The main challenge she is going to face is that of the troubled situation at the US – Mexico Border when facing her opposition, former President Donald Trump. The border issue has been a thorn in the flesh for the Republicans and one of the main reasons for Joe Biden stepping down from contesting the elections.

Global politics analysts are saying that if Harris comes to power, the state is going to see a similar rule like that of Biden’s.

This can be proved by analysing the statements Harris that she would continue to support Ukraine against the Russian armed forces against the stark contrast of her opposition, Donald Trump who has made it clear that he wants to fundamentally alter the relationship of US with NATO and doubts about supplying further weapons to Kyiv, the Ukraine Capital.

Statement on China;

On the China issue, Harris has long positioned herself as a mainstream counter-offensive to clear Chinese influence in Asian regions. This has been seen over the period of time as she has made her stance clear while on trips attending meetings like ASEAN conclaves in Jakarta. She has also travelled to Japan and South Korea often to strengthen the alliances. While this is the case for Harris, Trump on the other hand is causing the allies of the USA to worry about the security issues a lot especially in the South China Sea region.

The Iran Threat;

After Iran’s former President Ebrahim Raisi was killed in a chopper crash, the state was in turmoil. He was the main aggressor against the western forces especially the USA and executor of several Nuclear Projects of the country.

Thus Harris is being quite firm against Israel’s arch enemy and looks to negotiate hard to have a favourable deal in terms of security issues especially the nuclear threat and stopping Tehran to further arm Hamas and Hezbollah in the Israel Palestine conflict while keeping a firm stand against Israel to stop the mass genocide that its doing in the Gaza Strip.
