iPhone 18 Pro May Skip Classic Black Again, Insider Leak Suggests

Last updated on April 6th, 2026 at 05:57 am

According to leaked information from several sources, Apple may not include the black colour option on its next Pro iPhone model for the second consecutive time. The iPhone 17 Pro was the first Pro iPhone model to have no option to purchase a black or dark grey Pro iPhone since the iPhone 3GS. If this happens again with the iPhone 18 Pro, it would be a significant departure from the company’s by far most sold colour for its iPhones.

Black Might Be Missing for the Second Year in a Row

According to recent insider leaks, Apple may again not offer a black variant for the iPhone 18 Pro models, continuing last year’s trend with the iPhone 17 Pro not having any black variants available.

Thus far, multiple visible tipsters have reported that Apple does not plan to have a black colour option as well as have provided some reasoning behind it, which would also set the precedent for 2 iterations of iPhones that were launched without the company’s traditional black or dark grey colour options.

Why Apple May Be Avoiding Black

The reasoning behind this shift in colour options isn’t solely based on design but rather on the performance of the finishes used on Pro models today. Most Pro models today use anodized aluminum finishes; anodized aluminum does not resist scratches as well as painted finishes do. The darker colours (including black) tend to show wear and tear more readily than lighter or brighter colour finishes. To limit complaints of wear from consumers, Apple may be:

– Using brighter or lighter finishes

– Hiding scratches and wear on the Pro model finishes

– Creating an image of Pro models that do not look worn and torn.

In conclusion, the potential lack of black finish on the iPhone 18 Pro models indicates a longer-lasting trend for Apple.

New Colours Could Take Center Stage

Apple may be changing the regular black color scheme for the iPhone 18 Pro and will likely be looking at brighter colors to offer a wider selection of colors to choose from than ever before. Leaked information suggests that:

  • A new color is likely to be a deep burgundy color
  • You will likely find many shades of purple, brown, or burgundy to choose from
  • Many of the colors you can find now, such as blue or orange, are likely to remain in place

Apple has been transitioning away from the general use of traditional color tones over the past few years and moving toward making some of their new colors a more distinct color for our Pro iPhone each year in the upcoming years.

What This Means for Buyers

If you prefer to have the classic black color schemes, this could be a disappointment. However, if this is true, it shows that Apple is changing the definition of what it means to be “premium.” Instead of playing it safe with traditional colors, Apple will now be looking to provide customers with bright, trendy, and more unique colors/decorative effects.

Please note:

  • Black colour might still be offered with the standard iPhone 18 model
  • There is also the possibility of seeing the darker tones return with future models
  • However, the iPhone Pro series currently will have no black fingerprints on them when they launch.
