President-elect Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden’s unexpected decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. The move came as a surprise especially since Biden had previously said he wouldn’t interfere in legal issues related to his son.
On Truth Social Trump asked whether Biden’s pardon extended to the Jan. 6 protesters who remain in jail, calling it a “miscarriage of justice.”
Hunter Biden got into legal trouble earlier this year, facing charges for gun violations and tax issues. President Joe Biden defended pardoning his son, pointing out Hunter’s struggle and recovery from addiction. He also called the legal actions against Hunter unfair and biased.
The Trump team also spoke out. Incoming White House communications chief Steven Cheung called the pardon another example of a “weaponized justice system” and promised that Trump’s administration would restore fairness.
Biden acknowledged that this decision was personal. He said he made the pardon as a father who has watched his son endure public and legal challenges while remaining sober for over five years.
