How Trump’s Foreign Aid Suspension Results Worldwide Consequences on Humanitarian Projects?

Shock has gone through all global humanitarian operations after the halt on foreign aid funding made by the Trump administration. Not only have critical projects come to a stop but the million most vulnerable are in danger mainly from developing countries where US assistance heavily supports them.

One of the worst hit sectors is healthcare by this suspension of foreign aid. Life saving supplies which include essential drugs for HIV, malaria and tuberculosis are on hold. Medical aid to newborns and pregnant women in underserved regions is now in limbo.

The sudden freeze in funding also affects food assistance programs putting well-being of the many at risk of malnutrition and starvation particularly in crisis-prone areas such as Afghanistan.

Apart from healthcare, USAID funded projects in education, economic development and disaster resilience have come to a halt. Particularly in Pakistan energy projects, agricultural initiatives and economic growth schemes have been stalled affecting thousands of workers and communities. Most of the employees engaged in these initiatives have already received furloughs and termination orders that further aggravated economic uncertainty in the affected areas.

Not only in one country but around the world, humanitarian aid recipients are struggling to maintain their activities which rely on US aid. The suspension of funding has directly affected democracy, human rights and governance programs that have delayed critical reforms and progress in fragile states.

At the same time as the Trump administration considers this review as temporary, the consequences are already appearing in other aspects. Millions currently depending on these welfare programs are now facing an uncertain future because supporting lifelines are held hostage. The most vulnerable populations worldwide continue to face threats from this decision.
