Everyone has a song in their life. Music is the first thing that springs to our mind if anyone utters the word song. Millions of songs are released in various categories and genres worldwide every year. 

Songs from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s were not as technically sound as they are nowadays but their lyrics and composition were out of the world. Here is a list of the 10 best global evergreen songs that made it to our list. They are as follows;

1. A nation once again by Wolfe Tones;

Thomas Osborne Davis wrote the song A Nation Once Again in 1840, at the time when Ireland was under British rule. This song is one of the most well known and is connected to the Irish independence movement. The song’s narrator dreams of a time when his country will be free again. The lyrics exhort Irishman to stand up and fight for their land. In 1972, Wolfe Tones re-recorded the song and it was voted as the most famous song by listeners to the BBC World Service.

2. Vande Maataram by Various Artists;

This is a patriotic Hindi song written by Bengali poet Bamkim Chandra Chattopadhyay in the 1870s. Various styles of the song have been shown in different films over the period of time. It has featured in films like Leader, Anand Math, and Amar Asha. Famous singers like K.S Chitra and Lata Mangeshkar have lent their voices to sing this beautiful song.

3. Dil Dil Pakistan by Vital Signs;

Dil Dil Pakistan was Vital Signs’ first authentic taste of success in 1987. It became everyone’s favourite and a modern national anthem of the country. In 2003, it came third on the poll of popular songs. The official video was shot in Islamabad. 

4. Rakkamma Kaiya Thattu by Iliyaraaja;

The tamil language song is featured in the 1991 movie Thalapathy, an Indian version of The Godfather. S.P Balasubramaniam and Swarnalatha gave their voice to this song. Illiyaraja was the film’s music composer. It was the fourth most popular song worldwide in a poll conducted by the BBC World Service in 2002. The song’s lyrics were mixed from Teviaram, a religious poetry under the direction of Mani Ratnam.

5. Pinchum Nadakkuthu, Poovum Nadakkuthu by Thirumalai Chandran;

A song from the film Mungulgal depicts the struggle of Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka. This song means as the flower walks, the bud also follows it.

6. Ana wa Laila (Me and Laila) by Kazem el Saher;

Ana wa Laila is an Iraqi song by prominent Iraqi Pop singer Kazem el Saher. Ana wa Laila, is a song from his early career late 1990s about his troubled love for Laila. Hassan al Marwani wrote this romantic poem. The song featured in 6th position in the BBC World Service popular tunes list out of 10.

7. Reetu haramu timi hariyali basant hau nadihruma timi pabitra ganga hau by Arun Thapa;

It’s a beautiful song by Nepali pop artist Arun Thapa. The song translates into “You are the spring among the seasons”. Arun Thapa was infected with lung and liver disease and passed away in 1999. His music career started 50 years ago and was an artist for Radio Nepal. 

8. Believe by Cher;

Cher is an American singer and actress who shot into fame during the 1960s. Her song believe was the numero uno in the United Kingdom in 1998 spending a whole 7 weeks on top of the chart and became the year’s best selling track.

9. Chaiyya Chaiyya by AR Rahman;

Composed by AR Rahman and sung by Punjabi Folk Singer Sukhwindar Singh, the timeless classic track is a milestone in Rahman’s career. The song featured in the movie Dil Se and is based on sufi music and urdu poetry. 

10. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen;

Bohemian Rhapsody is the only album that topped the chart twice, first in november 1975 and then in december 1991 selling one million copies both times. The 6 minute pop music opera depicts bohemian life and is widely regarded as the first pop song to have its video.
